We provide lifesaving vitamins to mothers and children under five at risk of malnutrition — reducing preventable illness, blindness, and death — to create a healthier world.
200 million children suffer from the effects of malnutrition.
AAMED focuses on reducing stunting because it reflects many fronts: food systems, health systems, education, WASH infrastructure, and safety nets, to name a few. Since adequate growth and nutritional status is paramount, adequate growth and nutritional status is paramount. All of AAMED’s programming uses nutrition-sensitive approaches to providing the foundation for good nutrition.
Some programs additionally focus on nutrition-specific approaches that address immediate determinants of fetal and child nutrition and development. These programs focus on the key home-based practices that produce good nutrition outcomes, and as such they employ social and behavioral change strategies to encourage adoption of these behaviors. In these programs AAMED implements integrated model-called Collective Impact for Nutrition-developed through 10 years of programming across multiple countries, where key nutrition-sensitive interventions support core nutrition-specific behavior-based approaches, ensuring not only the promotion of improved nutrition but also helping to provide the necessary foundation for adopting them.
